![]() A spare hour in Oxford on Saturday morning gave me and my younger son Rowan the opportunity to visit the Ashomolean Museum to see the finished Thames Heritage Tapestry - and what an inspiration it was! School children all along the course of the river Thames, from its source all the way down to Southend, had contributed one metre square sections, each representing a section of the river. Every textile craft/technique was on show - rag rugging, cross stitich, weaving, applique, knitting, tapestry and more. The imagination and skill on display was amazing. From depictions of the river's wildlife and a fantastic Wind in the Willows interpretation, to the rowers at Henley, Windsor Castle, the London Eye and the O2 Arena, we travelled from rural backwaters along to the capital and then down to the coast. Sadly I can't find a link where the entire tapestry is photographed, but the real thing is on display at the Ashmolean for a couple more days - it's worth the trip. http://www.ashmolean.org/news/?id=169 Claire
