![]() Despite the hinderance of the guy posing at centre left, the boys from The Fibreworks 'cast offs' team (B) made us proud at the Local quiz last week. Raising money for the Lido pool Chipping Norton, Steve, Andrew, Vivian and the sports wizz Dan, came a respectable 3rd out of the 15 teams entered. Dan's fabulous attention to detail gained the team further decisive points when he beat his mum in the suduko round...bad luck Claire. Team (A) were right behind, although a last place prize of chunky kitkats was calling....no chocolate no medals....next time teams. ![]() Lesley's RCA training came in useful as we prepared for a rag rugging workshop at Holy Trinity School yesterday. The children of Year 4, led by their teacher Lucy Lane, have been working on a big project about Chipping Norton. After a morning's hard work, they had mastered the technique of rag rugging and were well on their way to creating a fabulous wall hanging with Bliss Mill as the centrepiece. Old clothing and bits and pieces of fabric and felt were all put to good use as they set about recreating this wonderful old building and its surroundings. Clouds, water, meadow, sun, sheep and even a water lily emerged during the morning. We can't wait to see the finished materpiece. This is your new blog post. Watch our class list for news of the next class so you too can master the art. ![]() We just had to spill the beans with the wonderful news. The Fibreworks is expecting a new delivery! Gorgeous, sumptuous, delicious fabrics for quilting and dressmaking will be arriving at the shop next week. New haberdashery, patterns and books too. Heres a taster of the gorgeous range we will be stocking. We can't wait to see the fabulous things you'll be making from now on. See you soon ![]() A spare hour in Oxford on Saturday morning gave me and my younger son Rowan the opportunity to visit the Ashomolean Museum to see the finished Thames Heritage Tapestry - and what an inspiration it was! School children all along the course of the river Thames, from its source all the way down to Southend, had contributed one metre square sections, each representing a section of the river. Every textile craft/technique was on show - rag rugging, cross stitich, weaving, applique, knitting, tapestry and more. The imagination and skill on display was amazing. From depictions of the river's wildlife and a fantastic Wind in the Willows interpretation, to the rowers at Henley, Windsor Castle, the London Eye and the O2 Arena, we travelled from rural backwaters along to the capital and then down to the coast. Sadly I can't find a link where the entire tapestry is photographed, but the real thing is on display at the Ashmolean for a couple more days - it's worth the trip. http://www.ashmolean.org/news/?id=169 Claire |
